Can using widgets increase "my documents" to critical?

I have been using yahoo widgets for a week now. I installed one called NEON GAUGES. There are several different gauges that you can use off the same widget. I installed one that is called "my documents" After install the gauge shows the following for my documents. CURRENT SIZE-3.3 KB CRITICAL SIZE 100 MB CRITICAL % 3395. Now with all that showing when I point on the widget my question is, did my documents go to critical because I installed the widgets. With out the widget how can I find out what size I am using on MY DOCUMENTS. What can happen with my documents showing this critical percent.

Reply:It's a bug in the Widget - it should have shown 3.3 GB and that's why the percentage is so high. The Widget didn't add any additional size to your computer beside the size of itself which is a few MB. Report It

i am having problems with my yahoo widgets heads up display (the one in the side of the screen). it doesn't show the picture of the widget. for example, the calendar widget, it doesn't show the date in the heads up display; just a picture of gears that says "widget". how do i fix this problem?

if you press "f8" it should display your widgets on top of everything else. or if you click on the gear, the options for widgets should pop up, you'll find what you are looking for.

Since I updated to Yahoo Widgets 4 (Mac) I can't find the option to set a widget to 'Show only in Heads-Up Display', which used to be in the Window Level menu in the widget's preferences.





Also, for some reason when I installed it, all my widgets which were previously heads-up only, switched to desktop level, and vice versa.





Anyway, I need to find the option so I can set them back the way they were.

Yahoo widgets move after a video game...?

After I play a video game and exit, my yahoo widgets are not in the same play I had set them. I have a dual screen set up and have a calendar, clock and some other widgets. There all on my secondary display. When I play a game a resolution change is evident because icons from my primary display are forced to my secondary display because of the games changing my primary's resolution... anywho, the icons reset just fine when I exit but my yahoo widgets are all random. how can I set them to not move, or maybe set the secondary display to not change? (Nvidia GeForce 6200 TurboCache 256MB)





P.S. setting the widgets to prevent dragging doesn't help

i have installed fine... when i press f8 the things pop up as they should, but when i hit it again, only the background goes, the widgets are still there... i only want widgets to appear when i hit f8 and to 100% dissapear when i hit it again, is this possible in yahoo widgets? if not can you tell me what widget makers can do this?

F8 brings your Widgets forward. Unfortunately, due to how Windows' APIs are set up, the Widgets can't be sent back to the desktop level by the engine... So you're basically stuck with the current behavior, even in other widget engines, until Microsoft provides a better facility for manipulating window levels.





However, if you're working in a web browser, for example, clicking on the browser window after dismissing Heads Up Display will bring the browser window in front of your Widgets again.
Reply:you can have the 'dock' as auto hide (it only comes when you hover over it) or you could just close the widgets by hovering over them and then clicking close (X). To get the widgets back again just hover over the dock and click on each individual widget.

I would like to use desktop widget (Yahoo widget, google gadgets, microsoft gadagets) to constnatly read the current URL of the Browser and report it to a server.


So user browses by its IE/FF and the widget monitors its locations.


The widget gets information from the server that is relevant for the viewed page, and present it.





Can widgets access the URL/Dom tree/http traffic that are related to Browser process ?

Widgets in yahoo is like Microsoft's Vista Gadgets.These are little programs that primarily use web services.





For example there are widgets that tell you how is the weather forecast, others let you read headlines from your favourite news paper, others can display images from a site. All this is done by small applications that are on your desktop. There are also widgets that do very simple tasks: calendars, calculators, clocks, program launchers...





In a technical view, there are several kinds of programs:


1-native - the common exe's, like word, paint, explorer... They can be only executed in one kind of operating system (for example, windows). This kind of files contains machine and Operating System-specific instructions.





2-portable- java based and new .NET exe's. They are run by using an interpreter (java virtual machine or microsoft's net framework). They can run on any kind operating system or computer that has the interpreter. This kind of files contains something called "intermediate code", which is generic, as opposed to that of exe's, which is specific.





3- scripts: they are like portables, but they run inside your web browser. This kind of files contains text instructions for the browser, and is a mix of html and javascript.





4- Widgets/Gadgets: we can say they are a mix of 2 and 3: they need a kind of interpreter (in this case yahoo widgets engine), but they are scripts.





In my oppinion, MS has copied this idea and added it to the new windows vista.

Reply:My goodness, aren't there any Mac users out there! Widgets are like little links that pop up when you want them by clicking on the "dashboard" button on the desktop or tools. Mac has dozens of them that come with the OSX or higher software and hundreds or more that can be downloaded from Apple. I have current and weeks temperatures forcasts for 3 places in the US and a downloaded widget for Fiji with sattelite pix and as much info as I want. There is a dictionary, radio tuners, ect. They all pop up on the dashboard 'overlay'!

Upgraded Widgets Engine to 4.5... can't see many widgets now?

After upgrading to 4.5 this morning, many widgets start up like normal, but they cannot be found anywhere on screen. I've checked for then being hidden and they are not there either.





When I started up 4.5, all of my widgets were moved around and I have a suspicion that they somehow ended up off screen.





I've also tried to install the 4.0.5 version but it tells me that my current version is newer and that it won't do it.





I think this is a bug with widget placement, any ideas?

I want to add widget only for mail alert widget, how can I ? How to trash my unecessary yahoo widgets ?

I really want only mail alert widget as shown by the note at the bottom my yahoo e-mail, but then as I browsed at yahoo widget I was downloaded the 4 widgets offered. Now I still don't have that mail alert widget and I want to get rid of some of that 4 widgets that had been unecessarily downloaded. Please help me.

I am sorry to hear that this happened to you. But to solve your issues, I would recommend to download this specific widget from Yahoo!: http://widgets.yahoo.com/gallery/view.ph...





The widget provides Yahoo! Mail alerts when you receive new emails. You can uninstall the older widgets that you don't want from your Add/Remove Programs in Windows :)

Reply:Go into your Widget preferences/options and delete/disable the unwanted Widgets.





If you are unable to do this, then just uninstall all of them. Then, go to the Yahoo! Widgets page and just download and install the desired Widget of your choice, which in this case is the mail alert Widget.

How do I get widgets that moved off screen back?

I just upgraded my widget engine to 4.5. After the widget engine restarted, all of my widgets had moved, to another location. Problem was, some of these widgets new location was no longer on my monitor (at least I am guessing since they were no longer visible).





Since then, I have been trying to everything to figure out how to get them back. I managed to get some of them back by closing and relaunching the widget. Others I got back by redownloading them. Eventually I got all of them back except for one, the Yahoo! Weather widget. I don't know where the setting for location on the desktop is stored, but I have tried everything short of uninstalling and re-installing the widget engine to get it back. Can someone help me out here?





Additional information: I am running Windows XP SP2, 3.19GHz Pentium 4, 3GB RAM, with 3 monitors.

they go into a file in your documents and the file name is my widgets you need to go their to open the other widgets you need to make sure that file is in documents for widgets to work

i have installed the yahoo widget engine 4.0. i downloaded widgets from the widget gallery, they are usually .exe but they wont run. i tried dragging them to the yahoo widget engine but it said that it isnt a valid yahoo widget (w/c makes sense because they were developed by other people) so how do install these widgets?

see to it that ur widget engine is running while u double click it and then wait for a while as depending on the speed and spec of ur pc it opens up,


i uninstalled this widet thingy coz inspite of me having 2 GB ram i dint get a good speed after loading this widget thingy.

I have a question about Yahoo! Widgets. I downloaded a widget and it will not open up. I'd like someone who knows exactly what I need to open this with. Any and all help would be appreciated. This is the specific widget I downloaded.

Did you download the appropriate Y! Widgets Engine (either for Windows or Mac)? If so, make sure it currently is open and running. I am guessing that you are running Windows, so I will go this route.





1) Right click on the Y! Widgets Engine icon (near the system clock on the Start Toolbar).


2) Select "Open Widget..." and a box should appear called "Open Widget" should appear.


3) Locate the folder that you save your widget in and double click to open the folder (For example: I have a folder called Widgets located in My Documents).


4) Double click on the widget you want to run. After this you may get a message asking you to "Allow" or "Deny" the widget to run.





In case you only opened the widget when you downloaded it, you may have to download it again and make sure you save it to a folder, such as "My Documents".

I rely heavily on many such as iSend to send text messages to employees cell phones, Local city government widgets to monitor local road and ferry commuter traffic, Gas Price Watch to locate the least expensive fuel wherever I'm located and Duo Core Temp to monitor my Macbook Pro's internal temp.
Reply:I use the Yahoo! Widgets on my laptop. I find the battery widget to be useful to me. And sometimes the Wi-Fi strength meter if I'm somewhere where the signal isn't that great.

Yahoo widgets problem?

i installed the engine on drive E instead of C so it would boot up faster and it does boot a LOT faster, BUT it keeps putting my widgets on c \ my documents \ my widgets , i want it on E \ widget engine \ my widgets how do i change it? putting my widgets on C defeats the purpose of putting the engine on drive E because it is still accessing C on startup, the entire problem i was trying to avoid.

I seem to have files all over the place. Different widgets in different files. Like ~/documents/widgets and ~/library/Yahoo widgets/konfigulator. Should all the Yahoo widgets be in one file? Is there a default file where new widgets are stored? Which one? Are there preferences to set that?





I have a question on the new Yahoo widgets dock: what does it mean when it says a widget is missing but I can click on that dock item and the widget appears.

Some Widget also store data In a Widget Data area.





To get to that area


Click on My Computer


Enter the following path:


C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Yahoo\Widget Engine\Widget Data





Any time I download a Widget from the Yahoo Widget Gallery It is automatically stored in the My Documents/My Widgets directory.

a widget is a fictional device. it doesn't exist. for example if you wanted to hypothetically start your own company and you didn't know what you wanted to sell or couldn't decide, you would substitute selling "widgets" for the product.
